Christmas, Getting Rich and the Law of Attraction

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

With Christmas just a few days away I’m reflecting on the many reasons Christians celebrate the birthday of Jesus, one of the greatest teachers of all time. Jesus selflessly taught throughout his life concepts such as “It is better to give than to receive” and “Love thine enemies.”  As a youngster I never could quite grasp the meaning of this and many concepts taught in conventional Christianity. I wondered, “Why would God give up his only son for the good of mankind?” There just didn’t seem to be a basis in my experience for such odd ideas.

I can remember thinking, “How can it be better to give than to receive when you always end up with less than you started with?” It’s a testament to God’s wisdom that he passed on to Jesus the knowledge to teach us all about one of the most powerful universal laws, The Law of Attraction. Our experience in the physical universe tends to blind us to the most powerful truths.

The physical universe seems to be, after all, a place of lack and need. Even when we are very young we begin to understand that we are vulnerable here. We need food, shelter and the strength to fend off challenges to our well being. We see almost every creature around us struggle to survive. How can it be any different?

Fortunately, as humans, we have the ability to reason that there are some things that exist outside the perception of our 5 physical senses. Great thinkers like Jesus have been able to reason that there are certain laws that govern our universe that we can’t see or feel in our day to day experience. Never the less, these universal laws affect our lives and work on all of us. The reason we know they exist is because we can see their predictable effects and thereby deduce how they work. Gravity is an example. We see and measure the effect of gravity but can not see or measure gravity itself.

When religions talk of faith it doesn’t have to be blind. We can readily see the effect of practicing the laws of Christianity and numerous other religions. Just as in more conventional science, over time, we improve the accuracy of our deduction about these Universal Laws. There are differences in detail, to be sure, and perhaps some things that will later be proven inaccurate, but all religions share core deductions that reflect the Universal Laws.

It wasn’t until much later in life that I would tie many of the Universal Laws taught to me together in my mind in such a way that I really understood what Jesus and God are trying to tell us, and why Christmas is more about giving than receiving. Oddly enough the realization came not from the study of religion and philosophy, although I have studied those subjects more than some people have. It came instead from desperately trying to understand our much more physical world of business and marketing.

When I finally grasped the concept of the Universal Law of Attraction and how it affects our financial well being, I also immediately understood what many religions and philosophies were trying to show me. Another great teacher, Wallace D. Wattles said:

“There is a science to getting rich, and it is an exact science like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty.”

It appears that Mr. Wattles was not only talking about worldly riches but spiritual riches as well.

If you would like to discover more about the Law of Attraction and the riches you can possess regardless of what others tell you about the world today, I recommend the SGR program taught by one of the greatest living teachers of our time, Bob Proctor.
